Senior Housing Care and Operations ~ Independent Retirement, Assisted Living and Memory Care
Founded in 1987, GNC began managing its first senior living community in 1988 in Springfield, Oregon. The Springfield community initially consisted of a single building developed on land purchased by Good Neighbor. By 1995, the Springfield community had expanded to ten individual buildings, with 90 suites. In 2000, Good Neighbor developed and began managing a 45-suite senior living community in Eugene, Oregon. By 2003 the company had added a 65-suite senior living community in Vacaville, California.
Meanwhile, Wilkinson Corporation, had recently entered the senior housing market. Established in 1992, the company oversaw the acquisition of nearly $40 million in multi-family, industrial and office buildings in its first five years. While vastly experienced in all facets of commercial real estate protocols, the firm had a clear understanding that senior housing management would be a critical component in their overall success, as they transitioned much of their acquisition focus into the senior market.
In October 2004, Good Neighbor was acquired by Wilkinson Corporation and began operating some of the company’s first senior housing acquisitions—four high profile, award-winning memory care communities in Southern California called The Gardens.
As synergies between the two companies continued to build, it was evident that teaming Wilkinson Corporation and GNC together provided a tremendous opportunity to assemble a truly unique network of senior housing communities. With a focus on creating concentrated pockets of senior communities across the country, GNC has built an incredible team of dedicated regional managers overseeing operations at the community level. Empowering these key leaders with decision-making capabilities paired with a genuine concern for their communities and their residents brought significant advantages. They can operate much like a family-run community providing outstanding one-on-one service to residents... while at the same time, capitalizing on the efficiencies of a large, nationwide management company with national supplier networks and professional training programs for every community.
As Wilkinson Corporation advances further into the senior housing market GNC continues to provide the operational skills necessary. At the same time, GNC continues to evolve, building on proven systems, continuing to learn and grow... and most of all, building lasting relationships at every level. At Good Neighbor Care, our people are what really make the difference.
